Upcoming NZ Events in 2020 for International Students To Attend, Part 1
These are all the events happening in the next few weeks/months that International Students might be interested in attending. They have been arranged in order of what is coming up first (or is on right now) to what will be happening last.
Mittens, Floofy and Famous – Wellington
When = Saturday 4th July to Sunday 11th October 2020, 10am – 5:00pm
Where = Wellington Museum
This exhibit has been put together to honour ‘His Royal Highness’, the cat with the key to the city, the icon that is Mittens! This mini-exhibition will highlight and display all of the antics that have inspired people to create art, drawings and photos about him.
Tēnei Tonu Exhibition – Napier
When = Fri 7th August 2020 – Sat 8th August 2020, 9:30am – 5:00pm
Where = MTG Hawke's Bay, 1 Tennyson St, Napier, Hawke's Bay
This is an exhibition of 10 ‘taonga riri’ (weapons), which have recently come out of storage and are on now on display. Some of these items are on display for the first time in 100 years. Tēnei Tonu translates as ‘always here’ and each item on exhibit tells a story of local iwi Ngati Kahungunu.
Go Green Expo & Better Food Fair – Christchurch, Auckland, Wellington
Saturday 8th August 2020 – Sunday 9th August 2020 (Christchurch),
Saturday 31st October 2020 – Sunday 1st November 2020 (Auckland), Saturday 7th November – Sunday 8th November 2020 (Wellington),
All events run from 10:00am – 5:00pm each day.
Where = Horncastle Arena, ASB Showgrounds, TSB Bank Arena
Three big events across three of NZ’s biggest cities, the expo is a sustainable lifestyle show that promotes organics, health & wellness and eco home and living. Get everything from advice on healthier living, food and drink samples and even chances to win goodie bag prizes. Online tickets are $4, or tickets are $5 at the door. Remember to bring your reusable bags and containers!
Walk of Wonders – Hawke’s Bay
When = Wednesday 26th August to Sunday 30th August 2020, 5:30pm – 9:30pm Wed, Thu, Sun and 5:30pm – 10:30pm Fri, Sat.
Where = Black Barn Vineyards, Black Barn Rd, Havelock North, Hawke's Bay / Gisborne
This is the first ever Walk of Wonders and it is said that it will be a media, light art, fire and audio experience for all ages. Experience a 2-hour interactive walkthrough, with music and local food and beverages to purchase!
WOW up close – Wellington
When = 29th August 2020 – 9th October 2020, 10:00am – 6:00pm
Where = Te Papa Museum
With the postponement of the full 2020 event due to COVID-19, you can still get your fix of the World of Wearable Art in Wellington this year. This exhibit will feature over 35 award-winning designs and will be on display for a limited amount of time only. Get your tickets today!
Night lights at MOTAT – Auckland
When = Friday 4th September - Sunday 6th September 2020, 6:00pm – 9:00pm
Where = Museum of Transport and Technology (MOTAT)
This three nights only event will transform the museum into an interactive light exhibit and students can visit for just $5. The light installations will also be shown alongside live projections and live performances.
Pop Garden Exhibition – Upper Hutt
When = Saturday 5th September 2020 – Sunday 13th December 2020 9:00am – 4:00pm
Where = Expressions Whirinaki Arts & Entertainment Ct, 836 Fergusson Drive, Upper Hutt, Wellington Region
An exhibition inspired by Andy Warhol’s pop art movement, this is an exhibition that will combine physical elements, projections, vibrant colours, audio elements and your own image to create a unique experience for the beholder. Everything is based around Andy Warhol’s ‘Flowers’.
The Land We Love Exhibition – Wellington
When = Monday 21st September – Sunday 27th September 2020, 10:00am – 6:00pm
Where = Thistle Hall, 293 Cuba St, Te Aro, Wellington
This exhibition celebrates New Zealand, with seven Wellington artists presenting work inspired by our country’s natural scenes. Its free admission and only on for a week so we recommend making the most of it!
WOAP – Wellington
When = The month of October
Where = A selection of Wellington restaurants
WOAP stands for Wellington On A Plate. This yearly event has changed slightly in 2020 due to COVID-19 and will be held later than normal. However, Wellington is the place to be for foodies in the month of October as restaurants in the Capital create unique dishes and burgers for patrons to try! All to win your stomachs and critics praise and awards. Dine Wellington will run from October 1–11, while Burger Wellington will run from October 12–31. Try all the tasty dishes/burgers each establishment comes up with before they go!
